Our struggles with obesity are self-imposed. We subsidize both the purchase of unhealthy food products with food-stamps and the production of the same with agricultural subsidies.
Take away corn subsidies and the yoke is removed from the American Farmer. There would be significantly more diversity in production, maybe even the application of permaculture principles that would improve the quality of our land instead of stripping it of all nutrients that would normally be present and self-renewing. Lower supply of corn and many food manufacturers will no longer be able to produce highly processed products like Doritos and Funyuns for a low price.
Take away food-stamps after this and people will be forced to buy according to their true income. Cheapest way to buy in that situation is to go directly to a farmer and cut out the middlemen. Start a bulk buying program for your neighborhood to lower the cost even further. Learn how to can and preserve foodstuffs. Be a part of growing, preserving, and the consuming your food.
It's not complicated and it's our normal state. All of our ancestors managed to survive without the type of contortion that currently exists in American Agriculture.
Just remove the incentives that the government has put in place. They're poorly constructed in the first place, don't get updated once set (maybe once in a blue moon), and not based on science or data more generally.
Agricultural subsidies and foodstamps are probably the two biggest contributors to poor diet in the United States.
According to NYC Crime Reporting, Chinatown (5th Precinct) has the lowest crime rate per 1000 residents of any of the precincts in Southern Manhattan. That's based on the current stats for the city. What the fuck is happening in the rest of NYC that is not getting any coverage?
Midtown Manhattan (Manhattan South Precinct) has the highest crime rate per 1000 residents by far. The rate is more than 10x of the crime rate in Chinatown and surrounding neighborhoods. What the fuck is happening in Midtown Manhattan and why are people fixating on Chinatown and not where the actual measurable problem is?
Nah, they abandoned those offices. Same thing as what happened to their Denver officers. This was all investigated thoroughly before and after the election. They're still the legal addresses but as far as I am aware they are no longer operating out of those locations and some of their former commercial locations have been listed as available on redfin.

Corn and Soy subsidies should be removed entirely. There should be more farmers. Farmers should not be in the business of precursor production. They should be in the business of food production. Direct sales to consumers should be the norm to preserve value between the participants as opposed to siphoning of who knows how much to the government and middle men.
