I guess that it used to be about God, family, property, no tyranny. Most people could say amen to that, and ask for the state to not meddle in their lives, too much.
Once you start adding in this benefit and that social provision, you get a welfare-state, socialism, communism, marxism.
Both systems have an elite. It's just that one system is more honest about it, and will let you keep what is yours. The other has the politics of envy.
