Which is why they do nothing about the deteriorating conditions of the forests. Only once the smoke covers their skies do they start caring, but even then, they don’t think beyond the cause of their own smog: their auto emissions.
Their line of logic is “our carbon emissions are drying things up and warming up the planet, therefore they are causing the fires. If we stop emissions, this will stop too.”
How about grab a fucking rake?
The bottom line for the police should be the people and the rule of law, not political hacks who may turn against their citizens for their own gain.
I hope the best for the Seattle citizens who actually value the police and aren’t actively pushing to get rid of them.
There are legitimate reasons to want to be a politician, but those who want to serve their constituents, as a politician should, tend to lose in favor of power-hungry sociopaths who know how to manipulate public opinion.
Don’t forget the million+ projected Japanese casualties. The bombings were horrific, but they prevented worse tragedy (not to mention deterred further use of atomic weapons).
Spez: It’s also worth mentioning that the bombings were on military targets that were meshed in with civilian areas. They were called out on that when the presidential speech on the attacks was given.
What follows the incredibly-high air pressure of a shockwave is a low-pressure zone. With a powerful enough explosion, and/or in a humid enough area, the pressure in this zone drops to the point that water vapor condenses and forms clouds. As the shockwave travels further out, the air inside stabilizes and the vapor vanishes.
This explosion was at a port, so it’d be safe to assume the air was humid, making the effect very prominent.
Exactly. Either cull the dead trees and dry debris or let wildfires consume them... as well as everything else.
At least the Park Service finally got the hint of how important normal wildfires are in a healthy ecosystem and are starting to do controlled burns instead of quashing all wildfires ASAP and letting the dry fuel accumulate. It doesn’t do much for the areas already devastated, however.
I hope forest restoration becomes a part of the administration’s national park/forest plans. I remember Trump making a big deal of all the dead and burned down forests in California’s federal property, and so far, barely anything’s been done about that.
If anything, it has the opposite effect. People of the more popular party are less inclined to vote, as they’re confident enough in their candidate’s success. We saw it with Hillary’s campaign in 2016... and I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens again with Biden.
When you’re paid by the hour, you’re not paid to finish the project; you’re being paid to work on it. Less incentive to get things done that way.
Case in point, I work for a contractor who seems more concerned with “keeping everyone busy” rather than figuring out how to get projects done efficiently. That is, until the client starts pressuring him.
This isn’t about protecting commies, it’s about depriving them of the very tactics that were once used to silence the black population in the Jim Crow era, which are now being applied to political dissidents.
But I suppose with the number of liberal judges out there, it’d be hard for such anti-discrimination to be enforced... if not abused by the left themselves.
I’ve seen a couple arguments against land management. Of course, lefty “environmentalists” are against any form of human intervention with nature, since apparently all of it is bad (which isn’t true).
There’s also misinformation about what management means in this regard, and when Trump came out in support of clearing dead matter from the forests, it of course got misconstrued as clear-cutting all trees.
One argument I’ve personally heard was that animals take shelter in fallen trees and such, and clearing the land deprives them of that shelter. Well, that’s a sound argument... if there are a handful of dead/fallen trees scattered about, as opposed to the hundreds-per-acre that a good portion of California’s forests currently have. And that’s not counting all the burn scars...
