There are those, like Carlos Osweda, who think that America must stay in lockdown for as long as it takes, seeing it as the only way to stop the pandemic and fully believing Trump would help bring the economy back to life once it's done.
There are others, however, who believe that Trump must reopen the US soon or risk a new "unprecedented" Great Depression, undoing not only his legacy, but America's place in the world.
Then, there are the Never-Trumpers and blackpillers who've all but convinced themselves that America is doomed either way and that China is humanity's leader.
...What comes next? Who knows?
Instead of "Make America/Keep America Great," the hysteria being pushed by the media is encouraging instead "America is lost, best to save as many people as we can" or "Lockdown or else you die."
Some on social media, it seems, have even embraced the blackpill and gone for "Second American Civil War." And, of course, such pessimism also makes people more inclined to think that Trump's optimism and efforts are "irresponsible" and "putting profits over people's lives."
Seems like the foreign news outlets are just hyping up the fear and panic over news that there've been 10,000 new cases in a day, while making Trump's talk of having the lockdowns over by Easter seem like crazy talk.
After all, if you take CNN et.al. at their word, America will be just like Spain and Italy! People dying on the streets! Trump endangering lives! Lockdown for months! It's the new normal! The experts say so!
/sarcasm
When you look at the foreign coverage, you don't hear much of possible solutions. Or of the promising cures being supported by President Trump, as well as similar efforts in France and Australia.
Instead, you have images of trucks with coffins in Italy being sent in droves for mass cremations.
You have fears of "another Italy" being exploited to push ever more draconian measures, if not calls to prolong shutdown for months as the "new normal."
You have environmentalists exploiting the situation to "justify" Green New Deal shit.
You have the People's Republic of China doing massive PR campaigns through "donations" and aid in the hopes of presenting the CCP and Xi Jinping as the savior and leading face.
Give the world hope. Give people reason to believe in America.
Just as the question says.
Even from my corner of Southeast Asia, the media coverage (especially coming from overseas) has been 24/7 doom-and-gloom. Economies shut down, fears of Italy's seeming "demise' writ large, sustained panic...while hysteria hasn't happened, you have sections of the population that are just afraid, whether for their lives or their livelihoods. I'd imagine something similar, if not MUCH MORE PRONOUNCED in the US, as foreign coverage is almost non-stop "AMERICA IS DOOMED FUCK TRUMP RECESSION NO HOPE"
How do you respond to the Doomers seemingly "vindicated" by such fearmongering and the overall sense of pessimism being cultivated?
EDIT: Curiously enough, you also have the People's Republic of China doing its spin in trying to present itself as the generous "savior." Meanwhile, Japan and Taiwan's examples, as well as Singapore's, tend to be downplayed.
Doesn't take an American to see how the US, while not shutting down entirely, is trying hard in spite of the hysteria to carry on and address the pandemic. Yet you have cynics and doomers and pessimists already acting like America's doomed to fall into recession, collapse or experience millions of deaths.
And while Trump's initial response wasn't exactly as quick or immediate as it ought to have been (with media coverage highlighting how he downplayed it early on), how true is any of that?
I'm no fan of panic or fear-mongering, but good grief looking online it seems like America went from "Greatness" to "Embracing Oblivion."
