You could pretend to be a socialist the whole time, but write conservative legislation when in Congress, and then when asked about it pretend it helps the socialist movement.

Democrat voters are dumb, and will vote for people just because they are Democrats in blue areas. Say your a Patriot conservative with lot of money raised from secret conservative donors. You blast all competition in the primaries. Win the general because it’s a blue area.
What the voters don’t realize is their decision is between two conservatives just one happens to have a D by their name.
