Heiser is a PhD in Hebrew language. He's a textualist by training, a Christian by choice, and a contextualist by providence; he combs through scholarly data on lower criticism, and presents it to the public, with as little eliding and elaborating, as possible, for non-scholarly consumption. His public work ends up being a reasonable look into ancient near-east theology, which theology is what the new testament writer's were steeped in.

There is a material difference between "diversity is our strength" leftism (D), and The Bigly Tent (R etc). I look at the old testament as history, and I view life as a scientist (physician/former-engineer) and unabashed supernaturalist. The reason why I look at the OT so, is archaeological, as the texts in it exist in the record at wildly different (and old) dates, which substantiates a consistent reading across time. Heiser's work is in that field, called "lower criticism"; it's publicly accessible, as he writes popularly too. Also, look into thebibleproject.com (high production value) and bible.ca (high theological value), too. None of this -maybe- will help you find a home, but it may help you find a mooring.
