You're absolutely correct but missed my point. My point was this is basically the final nail in the coffin. If this is ruled as OK, then the last standing part of the 4th amendment: you cannot physically invade someone's privacy (ie: barge into their home) to search for, and/or seize anything, is done away with. And that is something that is far more dangerous than just* reading texts between you and a friend.
*Not saying I support that either. On a sliding scale however, I would argue one is much more dangerous than the other.
