My experience isn't with anyone who was there, but I still read different accounts. I try every year to find different stories that I haven't read before to remind myself of both the evil that exists and the heroes that will rise when needed.

Honestly, you cant ELI5 because it is the 1984 equivalent of doublespeak. It takes work to flesh out. All of the posters above are correct, but the central thought is that the society we live in is, has been, and will always be racist. It was built on subjugating others and all white people are born racist. Attempting to have other people thrive in western civilization is racist because we are trying to force them to participate in our racist system. The only way to not be racist is to admit you are racist and break down the racist system and all the racists that support it. Also, facts don't matter because they were recorded by racist people. If you don't believe yourself racist and that the history that you know it as is racist then you are a racist and need to be reeducated or removed. The only way to end racism is to end society and institute communism. It is an amazing amount of crap, and people who really buy into it become NPCs. It is difficult for facts to reach them because everything has to be run through the filter of critical theory. Great point, Pede. Christianity has actually helped everybody thrive. Its main teaching is the death of Jesus Christ to pay for the sin of mankind, but its secondary teachings are amazing. Tolerance and love for those whom you can peacefully disagree with along with individual responsibility and the desire to help others.
