Yes, pneumonia is a symptom of diseases like flu or covid - so yes, it would be pneumonia that causes the scarring - the scarring seen in certain COVID cases has been found because of shortness of breath and painful breathing weeks after the virus is gone. This sort of thing increases chances of lung cancer, and you know - while its not a huge chance increase - i prefer to not have scars on my bronchioles and alveoli.
That said - I whole heartedly agree that this caution should not be enforced by the government. Its nominal enough that it should be left up to each individual.
agreed - the mask is more for show than anything - en masse, it prevents a lot of respiratory droplets and spit from landing on surfaces - but as I said, unless you're old or have stage four lymphoma - your danger from COVID is minimal.
I mean - at the risk of going against the circle jerk - COVID has some specific traits that make it worse than the flu. It can scar your lungs and lead to later complications - also its more deadly than the flu for immune compromised individuals. Its almost like it was lab created for a specific purpose....
Anyways - masks are for other peoples' protection, not your own. Wear them or don't - government can go fuck itself. If you have immune compromised people at home, I'd recommend caution - unless you're ok with them dying. Otherwise healthy people have really nothing to worry about except that slight chance of lung scarring.
