Chinese theft isn't all that bad. thanks to Chinese theft, we now have brought lots of tech to backyard engineers. take hoverboards for example. First Segway came up with it, then it was stolen, brought to the masses. nobody would have bought that shit if it was 1000s of dollars. Arduino boards and robotic development parts that are cheap and easy bring tech to the masses faster and create more rapid development for other pieces of tech. Look at drones. The flight controllers are practically all clones and stolen tech but now we have tons of companies making them. robotics and ai will go the same way. someone will come up with some super program to bring ai to robots it will get stolen by the chineese, then we will all have cheap home robots. Patents are ideas and in a global world they are obsolete. all that matters now is first to market and quality. gone are the days where companies can charge massive rip off prices for stuff they have patented. now they actually have to work for it to make a good product that is released faster and in better quality then the Chinese knockoff to make the money on it. if Chinese cars came to the usa, they would be cheaper yes with all the same things as honda and toyota, but people want a quality car that wont break in 30 days when it comes to expensive stuff like that. also look at 3d printers. you can now get one for 200 bucks. if an American company patented that it would be thousands and nobody would be tinkering with them. but thanks to Chinese stuff every kid interested in stem fields can afford one. the market will always be there for high end quality products for more expensive prices. and with robotics and ai coming there is going to need to be some economic and govt changes happening. Lets say we end up with an ai supercomputer that can put doctors out of work and robots take over everything? and robots operating in the usa that are managed by humans remotely from another country with an engineer paid much less then the usa salaries. really the only way to stop this is to stop all trade with china and become isolationists. tariffs on all Chinese imports and outsourced labor ect. and no president will ever bring us back to that. information wants to be free and patents are just information.
