If they ruled otherwise, they would have lost legitimacy. Even staring down their own demise with dems threatening to pack the court, they ruled according to the law and against their own interest.
They know whats at stake. They basically told everyone what they need to do to bring similar cases before them with same merit but also having adequate standing. The only hurdle is working those cases up to the Supreme Court by way of the lower courts. Or possibly Texas figuring out some better way to work out standing.
