In DFW Texas area it's a lot different feeling with no traffic jams and a lot of things closed. Restaurants, bars, theaters, and other social type places are closed statewide. Malls and things like that are closed in the cities depending on which city/county you live in. I think most people are just going about their business if it's something that's still open. We had nice weather yesterday and everyone was out doing their spring yard work.

When it comes to media I don't follow the national media much. I've watched the local news but the station I watch doesn't really lean politically at least not badly. They show clips of Trump's reports at times and some local outreach, you know "help the food bank" things like that.

I have gotten most of my information from the Governor and Mayor on Twitter. They are encouraging us to continue to support our local business as much as possible with take out food, gift cards but to be responsible and respectful of the virus dilemma while doing so. They like to appeal with the whole "let's be good Texans and be responsible but still help each other out."

Many of the local restaurants are extremely well organized and set up places to park for food pickup, they bring it out to you the payment can be done in advance if you're using a card, etc. I've been hitting one every day and leaving about twice a normal tip.

One thing that was quite disheartening was when I had the radio on yesterday going out to get my lunch. It's usually a sports channel and these guys had been sharing some sad stories of local restaurants that were already having to lay off tons of people. These radio talk guys were clearly quite distraught as the places they were talking about were in their neighborhood. They were all but begging people to get out, go eat, support your locals because we don't want to end all this with all those places gone.

Fuck off. I had to be back for work in three days and I'll be damned if I'm going to risk my good employment and means of living with a chance of getting stuck 1400 miles away with no way to get back. You can take your self indulgent bullshit and cram it up your ass.

Yeah I went on a local Reddit to find out some info about local restaurants that were open and such. There's a lot of good info since we're still purple here.

With it being Reddit though, there's a heavy dose of liberal garbage: "Texas will be hit hard by COVID-19 because we're a state filled with dumb fuck Trump supporters.", "Texas is so full of people that are full of shit it will be very bad here."

Then there's a post about a local factory that produces masks hiring 75 people right now to help. The responses are "working here absolutely blows", "$11.50 an hour shameful".

I've not witnessed a single person not trying to be responsible and I've been out of the house almost every day since everything went crazy.

Edit: When I say not responsible I mean with respect to keeping out of big groups and social spacing. There's plenty of hoarding morons.

Yep, we didn't win the war because we were especially badass (even though we were). We won because Hitler and the Japanese couldn't even dream of matching our ability to manufacture weapons, planes, tanks, ships.

I took a boat tour by Bath Iron Works in Maine last summer. You can't tour it inside anymore for defense security reasons. This one shipyard was putting out a new destroyer ship every 17 days during the peak of WW2. Destroyer wasn't a huge ship but they still were big chunks of metal and weapons not to be trifled with. Nowadays, they make this really badass looking stealth ship for us. It looks like something from a sci-fi movie.

But yeah, this is nothing for manufacturing. If we get these car factories tooled up quick enough they will make more ventilators than we would ever need in no time. Hopefully the real win will be the American people see a need to get manufacturing away from China finally and we can make a push there.

That sounds like a Trump cultist lie! I'm dying here! This is serious and because of all of you people ignoring it and that vile man in the White House we are all going to die! Bigot! Racism! Nazi! Islamophobic! Other bad sounding stuff!

That's really a good point. Let's continue to support American companies and give them a little time to cut off China.

Case in point, I switched to New Balance shoes a while back. I think we all like them and consider them a supporter of America, right? Well the shoes I bought are Made in China. I'd certainly prefer they not be and I know they have made in USA options. However, I have a recurring foot tendon issue and I'm very particular about the shoes I wear. They may all seem the same to the average person but the construction of a shoe varies a lot. I still think I'm better off with these than buying from a company that actively undermines American values. Hopefully they grow their US production in the meantime.

I didn't shoot it, but I ran it all over with a lawnmower yesterday. I've now got a huge trash can of Coronavirus out back to be hauled away forever and a ton of it in my lungs. I know it's definitely the Chinese virus because I am now coughing a lot more.

Everyone else you're good now, the problem has been solved! I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.

No kidding, Foxconn makes everything it seems. To not give too much info but I do network planning and buy loads of equipment. We buy almost exclusively from American-based companies (none of that stolen Chinese knockoff stuff, we aren't allowed to buy it). Even so, the number of times I've heard about delays at Foxconn and a few other places lately is unreal.

That would be a huge opportunity to bring onshore. The amount of money spent that most people don't see on internet and data infrastructure is absolutely unreal. If you've ever been to an equipment manufacturing facility stateside they are super high quality jobs. I'm sure there's some huge cost differential I don't see though (as I buy the finished product).

They sell that in the men's department. It's called underwear. It's designed to fit male genitals in it. I'm sure it's available in pink or silky or whatever the hell you want too.

It's absolutely mind-blowing when you get off into the leftist world how many are so invested in this shutdown mindset. "Shut it all down for a month and put this all to an end." It will NOT work here. Then of course they will blame it on all the "stupid Trump supporters" that go out anyway.

It seems like the measures here in big-city Texas are working just fine. I have been out quite a bit (by myself in my car) and I have not witnessed a single blatant disregard for the recommendations. Although admittedly I haven't tried to go grocery shopping during peak hours. It works worse in NYC because that's a completely different world from a huge majority of the US. It's almost impossible to avoid people there. I've been to almost all of the major cities in the US at least once (excluding CA) and there's just nothing like NYC.

The President's recommendations are fine. Let's take 15 days and slow it down. Buy ourselves time to attack the problem. After that, we need to let off a bit. Maybe schools should still be closed and maybe businesses that can work from home without any loss should keep doing that a while longer. A lot of everything else needs to trend back towards normal. If we just look at China and try to copy their measures we are doomed to fail miserably.

I bought a ticket to use in late June early last week. As soon as I get the idea this is easing up a tiny bit I'm immediately planning at least one more domestic trip or a couple long weekend trips, with my intent for them to be before my overseas trip in September. That trip is also booked through an American carrier and is to visit our good freedom loving friends in Poland, it's even at expensive pre-apocalypse prices. I may even look to book some travel for 2021 soon since you can go about 12 months out. All of us that can will need to jumpstart the economy quickly with capitalism!

One thing to note if anyone is like me and likes to travel but is bothered by the uncertainty--most of the carriers are offering change fee waivers on flights you book now. The flight I booked in June is no risk to me. Even if I decide it's better to not make that trip I can use those $ on another trip later with no penalty. I'm going to travel (or be killed off by something first).

I was supposed to be down there the first part of last week. Originally for MLB spring training. Once that was done I figured I'd go watch SpaceX launch their rocket and go to the beach. I ended up cancelling at the last minute when Trump hinted at if they might make travel restrictions.

Silver lining--I completely screwed up the planning of that trip and forgot about the spring break crowd. Young idiot parties would have just irritated me.

I was hoping you'd respond since I'd seen you on here before. These are pretty much exactly my thoughts.

I'm not that inclined to not dis-believe they aren't having new cases. It's not that hard to see how life is there right now under such a tight government control. There's a ton of evidence and I saw some videos about that app. It does not look like anywhere I'd want to live.

I just don't think that sort of control could work here even if we all thought we wanted it to. The entire structure of business and economy is so different.

Edit: I changed it to dis-believe. I meant I don't necessarily doubt their report.

My first thought would be another cold-war type scenario. Disconnect everything from them and kill them with capitalism.

However, if it was clear and obvious evidence then enough of our world would be on our side that it could be a full on war. Particularly is Russia is pissed off too.

I've got a slight cough right now and my eyes are a little irritated. I should immediately run to the hospital right? I'm dying!

It's definitely not from when I cut the grass earlier and bagged it all up into a huge can of clippings and had it blown all over me. I've been allergic to grass my whole life and I feel like this every time I do the yard. I still think it would be ridiculous to assume it was allergies when it's clear I have the CCV.

My county added more restrictions today. Seems like they are just trying to offer it up in small doses. Interesting one is that stores must enforce social distancing. No idea how they plan to pull that off but I may be shopping tomorrow morning.

Disheartening talk on the radio too when I was out to get my food earlier too. These guys were not on the normal narrative they were telling stories of some of the local restaurants and how they had already had to lay off so many because they just can't afford the staff. They were all but begging people to get some takeout so we could try to keep these places alive. I'm going to commit to a take out meal every day until they are closed too. I ended up with chicken drive thru today because the local Thai place I wanted to hit up wasn't answering the phone. I hope they aren't already gone.

Don't like him much and don't really trust him. I wouldn't think he's the only person Trump is listening to and they've not always been exactly on the same page. There are a lot of intelligent and highly qualified doctors in Trump's council right now.

I think Trump keeps him around and tries to keep him in check. If he fired him it would send a message they don't have everything fully together at the top and that cannot be the message right now. This will eventually all end and if officials need to be cleaned up let it happen then.

Great story! I love reading stories of real Americans that made their own way instead of making excuses. That used to be called the American dream. I'm sure the lefties find that racist now too.

Diet Coke, obviously.

I think it's partially because they haven't considered our cases closed. People have the CCV, they aren't dying and they aren't close to dying, but they also are still sick and haven't recovered yet.

I'm sure there's something in there where it's just Google being Google too.

Only reason I knew about the virus was I got sick the third week of January. Someone asked me if I had corona? I told them I had no idea what they were talking about and looked it up.

Everything then said it was no big deal. Something in China. Let's be honest it seems like there's always some disease spreading in China that's coming to get us. Bird flu, SARS, Swine flu, etc. Why would I have thought any different about this one?

I am going to have to throw some old comedy in. It's something I've not watched enough of and most of the modern comedies seem kinda dumbass anyway. Pre-Obama comedy can be quite funny though.

I just watched that a couple weeks ago, great movie. I go through Western phases quite a bit and the last couple years I've really been exploring older movies (not that it's all that old, but I watched a lot of the classic Westerns too) as there's nothing new that I'm interested in.

That is such a good movie one of my favorites. I still may rewatch it soon.

If it wasn't evident from my name I'm slightly obsessed with cold war stuff. That's not the Cucked Chinese Commie Party I'm talking about it's the Союз Советских Социалистических Республик

I think I actually have access to that already too on Amazon. I remember watching it when it came out but that's been a while. Definitely on my virus to-do list now.
