Husband's Grandfather made the Ultimate Sacrifice at Tarawa. He was among those in the first Higgins crafts that got caught on the reef. We were able to locate his buddy, a 94yo Marine. They got off the craft together in chest deep water, then all of a sudden, Gramps was gone. We don't know if he was washed out to sea, or if he was washed up to the beach when the tide came back in.

DPAA has the required DNA to make an ID...I hope he is in the batch that was repatriated in 2019. God Bless our Marines.
