2. opened with excel and created pivot table using year, jurisdiction, # deaths from all causes
3. filtered out jurisdictions (united states, new york city) and weeks (41-52)
4. gross #'s: 2019: 2,162,900 / 2020: 2,381,651 5: texas: 2019: 156,587 / 2020: 181,102

what i do note is that for jurisdiction 'united states' the sum for weeks 1-40 of all causes is 2019: 2,181,412 / 2020: 2,427,881 which leaves me with a discrepancy vs sum of the other jurisdictions of 18,512 and 46,230 respectively, and i cannot reconcile that by adding back the nyc numbers

using the same data, all jurisdictions, weeks 1- 40, all causes, i get:

2019: 2,162,900 2020: 2,381,651

+218,751, or +10%

only ak, hi, nc, pr, sd, wv show decline in total # of deaths; and even then nc and wv are huge anomalies in that they shows a 12% decrease (-9,170, -2,121 respectively); pr is also out of the reasonableness range with a -5% decline (-1,219)

in raw numbers, nd, mt, and ne are statistically even; tx shows the highest # of additional deaths (+24,515)

percentage wise, nj is +31% (+17,483) far outpacing dc (+24%), az (+21%), and ny (+18%)
