Im not even sure if this is conspiratorial anymore, but I think china has been funneling funding and narrative advancement in a direction to support civil strife. Their interests align with us having a civil war because they know thats the only way they can win a war with us.
The libertarian in me would agree with you. Im not really sure there is a principled argument against that. I think someone could make the national security argument but thats a very dangerous precedent.
