It's impossible imo, to suppress information leaking out, if it was actually NOT the case. So we're left with 2 options: chinese population was inoculated against the virus ahead of time or virus is designed in such a way that chinese nationals are naturally resistant to it. In any case it was an intentional action by China. Why release such a mild virus? Well, US has huge nuclear stockpile - any overt attack with a more deadly virus would be met with a deadly response. So the theory goes: stage I - release a mild virus first that will allow for a government takeover by chinese agents - once the nuclear weapons are in CCP hands, disable them and proceed with stage II virus - much more deadly this time, to finish the job, without the fear of retaliation. When you look at per capita deaths, the "catastrophic" US has 86 deaths per 100k pop while Switzerland 64 deaths per 100k population... as you can see, it's pretty close...
