Maybe some of you could shed some light on this for me as I am not directly acquainted with anyone who works in the medical field.
I keep seeing an overwhelming trend of sentiment that nurses, doctors are basically killing themselves in response to the virus. Pictures get passed around of nurses looking like they were in a bomb field, etc.
But. All of our local non-emergency care and urgent care facilities are closed. And thus far, continues that non-emergency appointments are deferred to a future unknown date. And even more astonishing, most non-life emergency surgeries, procedures, and screenings are also suspended.
Effectively this appears that duties would be reduced. Prioritizing Covid related patients. Except, the hospitalizations appear to be far below what we’re expected over-capacity thresholds. The original goalpost in “flattening the curve”.
So. What am I missing? Are doctors and nurses working 30 hour shifts in Covid stricken wards .. or is this simply a meme?
