It happens every 5 to 10 years. In 2011 a detailed report was built to document all of this the last time it happened. Solar and wind work fine when it’s cold if they are properly winterized. Wind and solar give us more energy independence from foreign CCP, Middle East, and Russian actors who have bad intentions. The only thing political about this is how shit Texas has been at managing its grid.
I have been here a while, but this is such a black and white issue that is very easy to research and we are still buying this narrative and trying to blame “wind and solar” and liberals by proxy? Like every bad thing in the universe is liberals? Could we not jump at shadows and believe idiot liars like Gov Abbott?
He’s not “my Biden” I hate the guy. Biden has literally zero say over what Texas does with its power plants. Jesus... this place has lost all sense of reality and perspective on this issue. It feels more like a full on spin machine for any right wing or conservative situation that is even slightly negative. Doesn’t matter if it’s a mess we made... musts been those all powerful liberals we love to make fun of for being idiots lol. Come on. This is Texas’ mess. If you can’t admit that you are no better than idiot SJW liberals on Reddit IMO.
Im done with the victim complex. We will keep losing elections if this is how we deal with crises of our own making. Let the left be victims, we need to take ownership and be leaders. We don’t react to the left we lead ahead of them.
The real blame is this: https://www.nerc.com/pa/rrm/ea/ColdWeatherTrainingMaterials/FERC%20NERC%20Findings%20and%20Recommendations.pdf
Texas knew this would happen and did nothing because it cost too much. Underinvested and under weatherized grid = right now. This is not a liberal or conservative energy policy issue but a state spending issue.
Heh they don’t want our culture. They want to eliminate it
This has everything to do with Texas legislators not willing to spend on the grid and nothing g to do with Biden. Don’t be a muppets, conservative states can screw up too.
Well, they really did duck it up every issue they are facing was documented in 2011:
Most of these were deemed too expensive to implement.this is a purely state level failure of very predictable circumstances.
Something anyone can agree on. There are much better nuclear plants designs now too.
The reports I read showed the renewable sources were actually producing more energy in the harsh conditions than other plants. Got any sources in the grid status?
This has nothing to do with liberals and everything to do with Texas not investing in its energy infrastructure in decades. The assessment reports of their grids that they themselves have produced are summarily ignored as too expensive. Also, Texas has fought long and hard for energy independence. Well, they have it and your 45 hour outage is the result. Sorry for your current situation though, sucks regardless of how it happened. This has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives and everything to do with dumb energy policy. And because TX energy is independent they got no one to blame. Texas has not followed a liberal energy policy in decades precisely because they don’t have to due to their energy independence.
This is entirely a mess of Texas’ making and is not political. They could have had more plants. They could have followed recommendations to winterize plants. They instead decided not to invest in their grid and now it’s crumbling under the pressure of an entirely predictable event. This is scraping the bottom of the barrel for memes and it’s pretty lame.
They love us focusing on AOC while they enact their agenda.
I watched. Is there any proof these are ballots? Even if they were approximately nothing will happen to anyone as this has already been memory holed by the MSM.
It’s one of my key issues with modern conservatism. We have sacrificed a lot of latitude on governance by catering to the religious among us. I think these issues carry too much weight in the party, but there is a lot of inertia and decades of marketing baked into the GOP now. I’m also not anti-religion... it’s just not my thing.
You know...this is a hornet’s nest on a predominantly conservative forum. I’m not here to agitate. Philosophy and theology, actual logic based philosophy, is a hobby of mine. It’s sufficient to say that this view of morality coming from religion is in a sense true and in a larger sense wrong. Christianity heavily borrowed from and paraphrased non-theistic philosophy for many of its core principles. So many people do derive their morality from Christian based teachings but even Christianity did not come from nothing. You can see the influence of Greek philosophy heavily in much of the teachings of Jesus. To assume these were borrowed and not word of God is a struggle for modern Christian theologians that try to reconcile Christianity’s rich history as being ultimately, divinely derived. I’ll just say it is a shaky foundation to work from. It’s very typical to overlook the incredibly rich tapestry of theological and philosophical thought at the time Christianity became popular. It is also natural given the dominance of this religion. This is a common “trap question” where people feel morality must be divinely derived, yet they can’t get out of their own way and actually review the uncomfortable history of all organized religion and not just their own. I am not anti-religion, I just think they are quaint leftovers of our struggle with the human condition.
I quit religion a long time ago and don’t need it to see clearly what is going on. Plenty of us aren’t religious and derive our morals and “salvation” from first principles. To each their own, I support your freedom.
I come here for the memes at this point.
Well.. I haven’t (put much thought into it) heh. That’s why I asked, cause I see strong reactions here. I think it’s an important issue but I have been more focused on other high priority stuff in the last few years as this has become a movement. What I know I dislike (hate, even) is the entitlement from the left on all of their social issues. To me this is just their latest dumb cause to make a big deal out of not be social justice front.
Sport is the one area where I do care and it could not be more obvious. It’s incredibly complex and annoying at the professional level to properly measure test levels and they have to use estrogen to block the test. At the amateur level? Forget about it. Trans people have no place in sport. Sport is about the ideals of competition and human feats and it’s quite silly to let trans people compete. The bathrooms and shit I don’t care.
Yeah... beauty is a very fluid and subjective thing. When you know someone’s views it can be very hard to not let that bias perception of them. People love K Mac here but really, if Jen wore makeup and put in effort and you just showed people pictures of her without knowing her politics she would get much higher “ratings” here.
Just trying to understand this issue. I’ll just sit back and meme I guess. Sorry.
Yeah... this is a stupid issue though. Troops routinely do training and deployments that are 10x less comfortable than a garage. This is just faux outrage over a non-issue. Like... logistically, this is a lot of troops. Your point though, is much better than the general complaints about this issue, thank you :)
Uhh.. it already works fine in the cold... Texas just isn’t willing to winterize it’s grid properly.
