So what's the solution? Can a federal entity deputize citizens to uphold the law? Can I create a militia and meet these violent thugs with overwhelming force and not face prosecution?
No. All I can do is powerlessly watch the cities burn. Because going to jail for trying to restore justice just isn't justice, and if I'm ever truly faced with that, the only real solution for me is to take my own life. Why? Because I'm not interested in living in a world that upside down.

Yeah no firefighter is getting near that. Everyone keeps asking for firehoses to clear this up. Rioters are far more violent these days, and firefighters have a reputation with the public that must be maintained. We need to always be seen as neutral, to maintain that public trust. Law enforcement isn't our business or forte- we're just not armed and trained enough to do it.
It's a really tough spot, because on one hand, you never know if those properties are vacant and if people are in danger, but on the other, how much do you risk to try to save someone? Riots, for firefighters and EMTs, are a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation.
