I actually think this is it. Leaving a laptop with such incriminating material on it (when he no doubt was getting multiple reminders to pick it up) is somewhat hard to believe. He may be "coming clean." Frankly, knowing that he is a drug addict makes me much less ready to consider him truly a bad person. We don't know the entire situation. Joe could have been using his desperation and drug-induced weakened character to place Hunter as the bagman over the years.
Who knows. He's playing in the big leagues, which means a two-shots-to-the-back-of-the-head suicide is always on the table. Best to let the truth come out, then allow yourself to judge.
Nah, they have to influence the people that wouldn't accept that this depravity exists. They need to first open them up to the reality that they are corrupt / "not-good" people in the first place.
We currently live in two realities. People in the other "reality" are quick to reject any info coming from this one.
And when propaganda incites the crowd to violence and rioting, then what? Yes, the public needs to approve of the government's actions. Justice and legality are two different beasts. The public needs to see that the exercise of laws is just, or you have problems. This should be very clear considering the events of the past few months.

Successfully convicting many high profile political criminals requires the the public's assent. Aligning the public to a message when the media propaganda apparatus is working directly and diligently against that same message takes a long time, if it can be done at all.
Because the point isn’t to “win” the election; it’s to bring unrest and rioting about such that martial law can be declared, at which point the military can act on all sealed indictments, bypassing any corruption within the executive and judicial branches.
