We definitely need something. I've been rethinking the big tech ecosystem. 20+ years ago, tech was somewhat libertarian. As it got more mainstream and the elites realized they needed control of it, the money-men took over.
For us to actually succeed, not only do we need to be successful, but we can't be subverted by the moneyed class. This is a really tall order -- we actually need a mechanism to communicate that isn't subject to hostile attacks or takedowns. This is almost certainly the distributed web, cryptocurrency, etc. There are people working on this kind of stuff, but adoption hasn't taken off. I think we need to double down on alternative social media, because the media controlling the message is really what either lights a fire under civil disobedience or waters it down. Now is the time to strike because trust in the MSM is at all time low, even among Democrats. Another 10-15% point swing in trust shifting in democrats would make a huge difference. It might even be more advantageous for us to pretend to be democrats and concern troll our way into their consciousness.
