It's a charade - to make them look like some kind of rebels..

But seriously.. the premise of many a Sci-fi story is that of off-world colonies rebeling against the One Earth government. The Expanse (TV series) comes to mind but it all started with "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by R.A.Henlein - that novel's got some TRUE libertarian vibes!

No doubt - 2021 will be rough. If anybody thinks culling entire sectors of the economy because of a "deadly" virus is not going to bite us in the ass ... well some people just have to learn the hard way.

Hindsight ... personally I think there is a limit to what a man can do alone. And yes it all comes down to people you surround yourself with.

My take - Lin is not the most stable person out there. As long as things are manageable he's probably doing fine ... but drop him in the heat of battle and he's lost. Not necessarily a bad man.

Perhaps the French were onto something when they started enumerating their republics - I think they are at number 5 currently.
