God doesn't "allow" anything to happen. When the philosophical event we call the "Expulsion from Paradise" or the "Fall from Grace" happened we told god we wanted to make our own mistakes and accept the consequences of that. That means everything that happens in this life is a direct result of our choices.

Are you being stupid? No.. it's a completely fair question to those outside of the faith who have been berated by the militant atheists who ridicule christians for "worshiping the great sky god" (which is not even close to the right allegory for faith and is a trope of the weak-minded).
