I think you misunderstand the nature of fast food more than I misunderstand the nature of construction.
Do a little bit of investigation. Look at all the of the fast food places within 20 miles of where you live. All of them (BK, taco bell, subway, wendies, etc), then investigate who owns them. It will be a shell "management company" owned by some person or family that has absurd amounts of wealth.
Construction companies are typically on the opposite end of political power. In the sense while there is a lot of back scratching and back room deals, they are also the ones who put forth the contract proposals for all of the RFPs. Meaning they are inherently owned by the politicians, and not vice versa.
