It appears to be true they both surrendered their law licenses. After that it is a bit more murky as to exactly why.
The most common thread is they did not want to pay the annual renewal fee for the license since they had no plans to continuing using the license plus they could/didn't comply with the annual requirements for continuing education.

And it does not say how the House Impeachment charge get transmitted to the Senate. It merely says: "The House of Representatives .... shall have the sole Power of Impeachment." That's it.

The House has the power formally charge the POTUS with one or more of the four impeachable offenses: "Treason, Bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors". None of these offenses are detailed in the House Articles of Impeachment.
