The Gateway Pundit had malware in their banner ads for nearly 2 years and direct links to them were banned on T_D. It was a huge issue and there were posts about it all the time until the mods banned them.
Don't assume everything is fine and dandy on our end. Any ad blocker will tell you what external sites are trying to harvest your data and get you to click on fraudulent links.
