My suggestion is blockchain receipts. It can be implemented on top of the current system. You get a unique hash with your vote receipt and once the vote tally is final, everyone can verify that their vote was actually processed correctly.
It's super simple, the systems have already been designed and tested.
But again, there are A TON of low information voters among our ranks who don't trust any computer system, regardless of how secure it is.

If you read the article it states that so many customers were calling and asking for them to block Facebook and Twitter, that they blocked it for everyone by default and emailed all their customers to let them know that they were blocked and offered to unblock it for anyone who requested it.
Then they got a ton of customer backlash and people threatening to cancel their service because they were blocking the websites without asking, and imposing their own censorship. The ISP reversed their decision and will now only be blocking the sites if the customers request, which has always been the case.
This is only a news article because they issued a blanket ban and people got pissed.
