I remember a big thing being how much oil Texas produces, specifically imports into Houston and apparently that Houston has some of the only oil processing plants in the U.S., meaning those processing plants are responsible for supplying oil byproducts to the entire country.
Also energy goes into the calculation, Texas has its own grid separate from the rest of the U.S. and would be self sufficient in that regard, compared to CA's rolling blackouts.
So I should correct my original statement, its not just Taxes paid out vs Taxes received by Federal, but a bunch of other things that don't get included in that.

Texas will never be allowed to succeed. And the reason is that the U.S. literally cannot bear the weight of its own economic policies driven by democrats. The ONLY reason California and N.Y. can even exist is due to the sheer volume of taxes that Texas has to give to the federal government, which then in turn subsidizes those states.
For this reason alone, the U.S. would sooner go to war with the Republic of Texas than allow it to succeed.
