The Utah non-resident gets you something like 23 states with reciprocity, so that might be worth checking out. Doesn't do much in New England, though, or most of the Northeast :(
That sucks. Here in Mass, it's up to your local police chief. The larger schools for the training course have a green, yellow, red, black list for which towns are likely to approve you.
If a training course is required for your state, Pedes, call a reputable training site and ask about your chances before you pay for the course. Most of them will give you an honest answer.
Good point. The site still has information about all the ridiculous hoops you have to jump through for most states, though. I used it to navigate the the Mass process.

USCCA and CCWSafe are two organizations that sell self-defense insurance. They offer significantly different packages, but they basically cover bail, legal advice, and legal fees throughout the whole process if you have to defend yourself.
I have both because I live in Massachusetts, and you're right, the cards are stacked against you from the get-go. Just posting in case some pedes didn't know stuff like that exists.
