The key to understanding the difference here is that the right and left generally agree, at least on a rhetorical level, that the best way of ordering society is the one that benefits the most people while harming the least. When they dehumanize us, it's because they believe our ideas cause harm. But this is demonstrably untrue; what they're calling "harm" is simply a lack of direct action, ie failing to actively provide goods or services to the people they feel deserve them. When we point to them causing harm, however, it is "harm" in the most literal possible sense: they use violent force as a tool to intimidate, to take money and possessions, and to cause measurable physical harm. When we dehumanize them as a response to this overt violence, although the words may sound the same, we are in no way saying the same thing. So, to answer this question:

I work at a business that was threatened with legal action + cutting off our utilities for staying open in the first week of lockdown, and was also smashed up in a BLM riot. When we stayed open, officers visited us several times to threaten us and issue illegal citations, and several days driving around 10+ cars deep doing the same to any business that remained open. But when a riot went off and those same businesses needed help, the cops left us all out to dry, standing in formation behind their cars for 20 minutes a couple blocks away while fires were set and businesses were looted.
