I know a lot of people consider that, but at the end of the day, the amount of arrests or encounters with law enforcement are all that matter. There's no judgement in that, but I think that's a better metric for comparing, since what we're looking at is probability of police killing you.
The graphic starts by comparing overall arrests, as well as the murder ratio between whites and blacks. Thats useful for addressing "white supremacy" killing black americans and those conversations. The lines are drawing from the arrests to the actual amounts of people whove died, eventually leading to unarmed deaths, which is the most important factor to discuss, since it induces the most rage.
It's a graph I would discuss with people, not one I would just post and walk away from ultimately, and I hope others do the same.
I was curious tonight on the actual stats, made this graphic so I can quickly and easily discuss it with friends without much baggage. This isn't to diminish actual murders, but I hope it can help even out media hysteria.
Here is a dropbox link to my folder of research so far. Download it and read it. The links file has some studies.
