They built a big ass dike around Lake O stopping its natural flow so industry could set up around it. Dike was at risk or some shit so they built paths to drain it to rivers to the east and west. But the dam lake if full of so much fertilizer and pollution it completely fucked up the rivers it drains into. It's a health risk to eat the fish from Lake O... used to be the Bass Fishing capital of the world.
When I moved to FL, the Caloosahatchee river was crystal clear and full of so much life. Dudes were catching Tarpon and other saltwater species miles inshore by the Franklin locks... Now the river is pitch black normally with green film on top.. my uncle has been seeing fish floating in the river because its so polluted. The values of all the home built with access to it crashed. The polluted water then gets dumped onto our beaches So SW FL used to be known for clear water and white sand, but now it has dirty brown water or red tide for most of the year and its spiked the hardhead catfish population because they're the only ones surviving in that shit.
I've talked to the pier owner and even random people at bass pro... all recreational fishermen who knew what it used to be like is fucking pissed.
