This was from the 15th, which is when the announcement was made, but we haven't really been seeing much of a difference in regards to (bullshit) case numbers.
Is it the hospitals that are mucking things up? Or has this not gone into affect yet?
Perhaps. And it is all 100% the fault of the governors or mayors, most of which are Dems (though a lot of Rs are caving too).
But I think his recent change in messaging is a little alarming. Trump more or less came off as anti-lockdown, or at least pro "we need to open up and do it soon". Looked like he was the one to take an aggressive "no more of this bullshit" stance on the virus, again looking back both to his Oklahoma rally and the July 4th speech, where virus "rules" went out the window. But now he's gone in the opposite direction and is saying that masks, social distancing, etc etc are all the right things to do.
Why is that a problem? This is validating the governors enforcing these draconian orders. Sure Trump never mentioned or said to go to the ridiculous extremes that the governors are doing, but not only is Trump not really doing anything about it (these orders are entirely unconstitutional), but now he seems to be indirectly okaying it. People wanted Trump to lead the charge to get everyone back to work, and now he doesn't seem to be doing it.
If people are still out of work in November, people will of course blame their governors, but they might ask where the president was in all this. The president that said that the cure cannot be worse than the problem itself. The president that said that there will be a V-shaped economic recovery (the stocks did that yeah but what about everything else?). The president that kept saying we need to get back to normal but didn't seem to by in a hurry to do it.
I don't necessarily think that Trump will lose people to Biden over this, but one thing Trump and his campaign thrive on is raw high energy enthusiasm. And if that drops off significantly because everyone is still under stupid lockdown in November, that is not going to be good at all. Less of losing people to Biden and more people just sitting the election out.
Sorry if all this is seems doom and gloom but my red pill is looking more black by the day.
Polls are bullshit and always will be, no doubt about it.
As for who will win? I honestly think it depends on how the Kung Flu situation is by then.
The country is still largely locked down. Businesses still shuttered, livelihoods still ruined, dreams crushed, fun cancelled. Four months into 15 days to slow the spread. Reopening is now completely off the table in most states, and now even Trump has largely done a 180 from his position less than a month ago (his legendary July 4th speech with no social distancing).
If this is all still going on by November, after 8 months, I really don’t know if he’ll do so well. He will get the brunt of the blame for the closure of businesses, for everyone wearing a mask, for kids having to go through some horrifying bullshit restrictions in their schools. Whether it’s Trump’s fault or not he will get the blame, and that is definitely going to hurt him. That is the reality.
If the Kung Flu hoax is resolved by then? Trump landslide easily. But I’m not going to lie I am very worried with how long this is still looking to go on, and how Trump is playing into it now. Maybe he has something up his sleeve. For our sake, for his, for America’s, he’d better.
I'm really starting to feel like there's no peaceful resolution to this. That the only way out is to fight our way out. Using our 2nd Amendment.
Only when a mass amount of people start doing that, I think, will the governors back off. Problem is, good luck getting enough support for something like that. No, I do not condone violence, and I think there always is and should be a better solution (except for when there's a direct threat ie someone breaking into your home or threatening you or your family). But they seem insistent on seeing how far they can push us while getting away with it. What would happen if they couldn't get away with it?
Somewhat unpopular opinion:
I wouldn't mind the masks that much if it meant that we can go back to normal in every other regard. If it meant that we can stop the social distancing, stop cancelling events, go back to work, and live our lives again, but with a mask on our face, then fine, I'd do it. I wouldn't like it, and I would still think it was stupid as shit and unscientific, but if that's what it takes for people to calm their tits and let me and everyone else actually live again to a capacity, then fine. Given the choice between the lesser of two evils, masks or lockdown, then I'd choose the former, still somewhat reluctantly, but if I had to pick one...
But now they want me to do all these other failed containment measures and wear a mask? Fuck off with that.
This is the reason Trump needs to try to quell the hysteria. This is the kind of shit that he needs to be trying to put a stop to.
But the pressers the last few days made me think that that isn't going to happen.
They are going to have their """new normal""". They are going to have their horrifying, draconian "restrictions" and "precautions", and our kids will have to suffer for it.
Seriously, this needs to stop. The fucking "pandemic" is a scam. Numbers are hilariously inflated and it's less lethal than the flu. We need to stop pretending it's any more of an issue than it is. All of this, every bit of it, is a political game. One that it looks like the left is winning. Does Trump have something up his sleeve? Maybe. But if this shit actually passes when the school year starts, I'm losing all hope for humanity.
Really, to me at least, this isn't just about the convention.
Being in the area, I'm more than a little upset about the convention being cancelled, but that isn't the end of it.
By doing this, as well as having virtual or tele rallies for the forseeable future, he's telling people that life will not get back anywhere close to normal any time soon. He's telling people that reopening is completely off the table, and we still can't have large, fun events like we used to. That we are not just putting this behind us.
People want to get back to normal. The real normal, not the """"new normal"""". Trump giving into the hysterics and cancelling the convention tells people, especially in Florida to buckle up because you're not getting your life back anytime soon.
This cannot drag onto the election. November is over 3 months away. We can't keep giving out stimulus and CARES checks until then. If we do that we may as well be giving out UBI. It's going to make the debt that Obama added look like child's play.
This is the opposite direction that people have been wanting Trump to take. We were looking to Trump as being the one level-headed person regarding the virus in the government and now even he has done a complete 180 and is all in on masks, social distancing, and vaccines. Just one month after holding an in-person rally.
We looked to Trump to give us hope that this will be over, and instead he told us in a rather large way that it will not. That is what's irked me and a lot of others. The locking down and masking of people should be the number 1 issue to deal with and resolve, but instead it feels like he's just kicking the can down the road until November, which is a bad bad bad thing to do. If this is still going on in November, I really worry about his chances.
When they drastically inflate the death numbers while literally admit to doing it
When they admit to counting one person testing multiple times as multiple new cases
When they start including "probable" cases as new cases, without testing them
When, on top of all of that, they admit that the cases and death numbers reported on a given day include some from several weeks ago
When the CDC itself admits that the death rate is lower than the seasonal flu
When they have to forcefully shut down businesses, force people to wear masks without voting or asking, and play hyper-sensationalized fear porn to them 24/7, in order to get anyone to give a shit,
Then maybe the "pandemic" isn't quite what it's hyped up to be.
When none of the containment measures have any scientific basis
When they all miserably fail to "stop" the virus
When we're completely tearing down the country on behalf of a failed, and completely nonsensical strategy (do not quarantine the healthy), that's made no noticeable impact anywhere it was tried (Sweden didn't lock down and ended up better than many countries that did).
Then maybe we should just stop trying all these failed strategies and let the virus run its course, which it will inevitably do no matter how many lockdowns, masks, and event cancellations we do.
Is the virus real? Yes. Is it a problem? For certain people (elderly, immuno-compromised), absolutely. Should we be working to protect them? Definitely. Should we be quarantining the entire population, shutting off the economy, forcing masks on everyone, making everyone see each other as potential virus-spreaders, cancelling anything fun, and telling people to shut up and stay home? Fuck no.
This is not a win.
He is not quelling the hysteria. He is giving into it.
This is a huge step back, regardless of how many people actually watch the convention.
We need to get our lives back to normal. There is 0 excuse for us to be in day 120+ of 15 days to slow the spread. This instills absolutely 0 hope that we’ll put this behind us any time soon.
For anyone hoping that we’ll reopen soon, especially in Florida, like myself, this felt like a gut punch.
If it doesn’t, if the lockdowns go on, and the economy completely collapses, which it’s on the brink of doing, he will lose in November. I don’t think he’s going to drive people of his base to vote Biden, but if enthusiasm takes a huge hit for Trump that’s not good at all, either.
He is playing their virus game and losing badly. If he doesn’t reverse course soon, he will get the blame for all of this. And I find it hard to not feel like it would be deserved after seeing how he’s been handling it with these past 3 conferences.
I seriously wonder if Trump knows how inflated they are. If he does, he should absolutely be pointing it out. Taking them at face value benefits nobody.
I’ve been hoping he would do that since day 1 but at this point I just don’t think it’s going to happen. He’s gone all in on masks, vaccines, and now it looks like cancelling large events.
They got to him.
If they’re not following their own rules, it isn’t about the virus.
Because muh cases.
Ignoring the fact that rising cases and falling deaths is actually a good thing, meaning either we’re a hell of a lot better at treating it or it’s become far less deadly.
Or we aren’t sending sick to nursing homes
And you know most of those weren’t even WuFlu deaths.
It was never about the virus.
It was about tearing down the economy, as Dems are still asshurt about 2016 and feel the need to punish everyone until they vote a Dem into office.
Trump, unfortunately, got caught up in all this, and got duped into closing down the country. I don’t know who’s advising him now but he needs to stop listening to them. I don’t know about you but with the last two WuFlu briefings I got the impression that he isn’t making small steps forward, but relatively large steps backward. It is definitely not going over well with the base, and it needs to end now. If by mid-August the lockdowns are still going on, I feel like the last supporting pillars of the economy will give, and we will see a total collapse. Stimulus can only do so much.
Yes, we cannot get rid of the virus.
So can we stop fucking trying already.
We’re destroying everything and getting 0 results. Just stop.
They really really want that 12-18 month lockdown that they were advertising.
And at this point it looks like they’re going to get it. Nobody is stopping them.
It isn’t.
None of this is. Mandatory masks, closing of businesses, closing churches, none of it is remotely legal.
But they’re doing it because nobody is stopping them. It will keep getting worse so long as they’re allowed to do it.
Rebuild from the annihilation caused by the lockdowns, yeah.
That's what I've been thinking (and hoping) too. Taking more of a "let it down easy" approach vs a "blow up the narrative and hope that people see it" approach. With the latter, not only will the media absolutely shred him apart for it, but people will probably just not believe it. It's what we've been wanting him to do, but people who are legit terrified of the virus have already shown an aversion to such good news and data.
The problem I've had with the last few pressers is that it doesn't really seem like he's trying to let it down, but is more trying to prop it back up. Not sure what he's trying to do there, maybe let everyone know that he's "taking it seriously" before beginning deescalation. I dunno, I'm rather demoralized by his recent 180 on his virus stance, but knowing Trump he might have a long game. He'd better; for his sake, for ours, for America's.
