Interesting info. I’d imagine that breathing that gas is similar to the process and experience of being put under for surgery? I suppose my major concern would be what is happening neurologically. When I had my more recent dog put to sleep I asked the veterinarian if my dog was dead after receiving the injection. His reply was, “His heart has stopped.” I didn’t realize until quite some time after the grief had settled that the vet’s answer was potentially evasive due to its specificity. This revelation ushered in a new wave of grief because I have no way of knowing what my dog may have experienced between the time his heart stopped and when cognition or neurological activity may have ended.
I suppose if I were going to be put to death as adjudicated by the state, political organization, or another person as a measure of exacting “justice,” I’d like to leave a big fucking mess after going out on my feet.
