We were talking specifically about the kiosks. I asked him what the main driving factor was for investing in them. His words "Our profit margins are thin and with the minimum wage going to at least $15/hr and probably more, we've got to come up with methods to replace workers that can easily be replaced. We figure the payback for one kiosk is very short if we can eliminate people." Straight up facts and since most politicians are have never run a business they think it's as easy as saying pay people more. Doesn't work that way.

Definitely at least speak to an attorney. I went through some shit when I switched jobs once. I left company A and went to work for company B that was a competitor to company A. Came home one day and found an official document from company A stating I needed to "cease and desist" my activities at company B because of a non-compete I had signed. I live in NY. To make a long story short I got a lawyer involved and he basically sent a letter to company A telling them to go pound sand. It worked because as shitty as NY is, the state is very pro-worker and anti-corporate. Meaning they will not tolerate a company not allowing someone to earn a living. Especially considering I am not an executive level employee. Ca. is the same way. I know your situation is different, but it would not hurt to speak to a lawyer about it.
