They did after 9-11. Three days of clear skies and reduced noise, except for F16s screaming around.

Open borders is one problem, the other one is urban density. Even that might not be so bad if the big cities weren't run by lefties who have allowed and encouraged lawlessness. No one in NYC is going to take quarantine seriously when they have policies like no bail for non-violent crimes. What would they do against quarantine breakers that they won't do against robbers?

Fortunately we have a genius President who also understands how to exploit a crisis, but in a good way. Hopefully he can shake up the CDC and FDA.

Aw. And Megan Markel too, she hoped to get on that train.

We are lucky so far that being a doctor has traditionally been high status, and used to be high independence too. But, medicine has become strangled in paperwork, due to reporting requirements, and too specialized, not enough global problem recognition. This needs to change.

Very good article with the backstory on why Govt. run health care, in this instance the CDC and FDA, made things worse, contributed to the spread of COVID in Washington, and left us with bad tests. Explains Trump's remark about the CDC foot-dragging and why it was so brilliant to declare an emergency and get private sector help.

I had something weird for 2 weeks from the first week of Dec. Not super sick, more like a bad allergy out of season. Mostly head ache, a little fever, tired. However I've had pneumonitis too many times from allergies and if it even seems like starting, I use a salt inhaler three or four times a day, (! this is more than recommended for prophylaxis) and had no lower respiratory problems.

Refuse to help and look like Chinese assholes. FIFY. This is Google's chance to decouple or be ruined.

I suspected something like that, but 80%? Where did you see that? False negatives would be worse.

Too logical. Plus they also spend a lot of time with other people who are flying around. These jetsetters are bad for the environment in many ways.

The best job the CDC does is gather and disseminate statistics. It's boring maybe but essential. The basis of statistics is counting and where it all goes downhill is counting the wrong things, and I think the CDC and Surgeon General have both gotten to be political tools to push political ideas about health.

Complaining that now it might be possible, people will expect them to pay.

It is wise to have what you need for a common emergency like a power outage for a week (not too strange around here) and double or triple that--this is a reserve above normal stock. Plus the sort of survival stuff you might take on a long camping trip. Most people don't know how much they eat in a week, though. Figuring that out and how to store it is planning. It is panic to rush out without a plan to get stuff you don't know if you'll need over rumors.

Libs always have this all-or-nothing approach. Not being able to stop nature is realistic. Staying as prepared as possible for the inevitable is prudent. But saying we can't stop it so let's virtue signal and literally hug the Chinese is insane.

Sorcha Faal is Fake News. All "her" stories contain some truth, e.g. Hanes was a whistleblower, and an attorney and his wife are dead of gunshots---and then these truths from last week that you might not now have the original article for, are tied together in secret memos circulating in the Kremlin. It's absolutely formulaic. This guy probably larps on 4chan.

I wish I could think up such satisfactory stories. In some timeline this is happening.

John Trump was an electrical engineer--after Nikola Tesla died, the FBI took Tesla's unpublished random notes to Trump to see if there was anything interesting. The basis for various conspiracy theories since then.
