The big hospital here where most neuro patients go pays a harpist to sit in the halls and play, that is amazingly soothing too. Music stays meaningful to the demented too.
Can you get volunteers where you are? Like the baby cuddlers in nurseries. They can be meaningful help just by cruising around and socializing. They can relay real needs to the medical and in the meantime give psychic strokes just by listening. It's terribly boring to be confined and imo that's another reason to lean on the call button. Therapy animals and musicians are good too.
Because it has already flopped in two clinical trials against corona virus and probably has other problems, so the clinical testing will be done on people who will have a harder time suing.
There are good SNFs and imo providing long term care is a noble effort, but I've seen places where the staff is worn down and can't keep caring, it just isn't the same when the staff withdraws emotionally even if technically the care meets standards.
There were some bad test kits though in the beginning and imo the first month results probably weren't too helpful. Now as we seem to be settling into more people using the same test, further testing will smooth out the past mistakes. There may still be a bias in tests but using the same test means the bias is reliable. If you know what error to expect then extrapolation is also more consistent.
They should, obviously they were infected whether they knew it or not. It would help understanding the mortality and also the pattern and timeline of spread although the latter might be sampled enough already.
The Chinese would do the hunting and those hornets would be extinct in no time.
Sullivan is going against his own behavior in Stevens' case. He does seem to be going farther than cultural and political preferences. Maybe his being chosen judge wasn't completely random.
As a doctor who still practices and therefore has to keep up, he's probably fuming over all the medical stupidity he's seen lately.
What a shit study. Hope more people can understand that the original design of this typical "controlled study" required not only putting the Remdesvir group at risk of whatever side effects for unknown benefit, it means the control group has no chance at all of benefit because there is no plan B for them. And that's what these gold standard control studies always mean. At least they were only playing with 77 lives.
At the very end he's talking about his support and asks for it through Patreon. Practically the last words. I think he knows even mathematicians can be demonized.
I went out and cut the lawn as self-flagellation.
This is wonderful and one of the best instructional videos I've seen. I hope a lot of people can follow it through to the end. it addresses a lot of things that I think need to be understood to get out of the hair on fire mode, like why do testing, and what kinds of "distancing" including quarantine work...or don't. My own feeling is that the best end result would be to have provided the best care by keeping the healthcare system underwhelmed AND minimize the final number of susceptibles. That means more sick people, but as long as they are susceptible, it's a cloud hanging over, and we can see how that turns into a control issue. :) Also liked his comment about YouTube and demonetizing people.
Sorry! I realized that after I posted. I was still thinking about the game. However, success in the game relates to the type of polygon in the map (geography ond homogeneity) as there can be many tilings. The more irregular, the harder to wipe out the board. The game has been around since DOS days, probably lots of code exists.
Autopsies are time-consuming. This article doesn't mention how many actual autopsies vs. external and historical examination, but if there were many cases I can't imagine they were all autopsied. Yet this would be the only way I can see to settle a lot of arguments, e.g. yearly flu death numbers are probably as erroneous as current COVID-19 numbers, which is another reason that comparing the two is iffy.
Not exactly the code but related.
FTA "Much of the aid will go to help public safety officials like policemen, firefighters and EMT’s, as well as to schools." In other words, a union bailout.
The game is more realistic to real virus spread because not all neighbors can be infected immediately--more like super simple Go, some pockets escape.
edit: Woo hoo! Here's the math for the real life situation which the game mimics: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/05/11/why-herd-immunity-to-covid-19-is-reached-much-earlier-than-thought/ mentioned in a post by u/nufosmatic
This looks like a really old computer game called "color virus." The player chooses which neighboring color to attack and has limited moves to fill the board.
Trump put a stop to that funding, how else are they going to support the graft?
That actually has a glimmer of possibility, if we knew who and why.
I think it's a browser thing. It used to happen, then I switched. What worked or didn't for me might not be the same for you so I'm not naming them, but it's easy to try.
It's Trayvon Martin redux.
Pretty reasonable hypotheses. I would say #1 is perhaps more complex. My idea is that the CIA has been in the drug business a long time, the cartels are like mercenary partners doing the street level stuff, China and Iran both are in it for the potential to erode and destroy us. It's a whole parasitic ecology of crime.
Don't discount Hilarry's disapproval rate leading to an anti-Hillary vote. Biden is meh to most people.
