I was told by MI pedes on thedonald that MI is all right as long as I stay out of those places you mentioned. Didn't realize that there were two dozen or more shithole cities there though. Maybe I'll have to reconsider.
It was suggested to me that red parts of MI would be a minimal culture shock to a Canadian, and that it still looks and feels like Canada.
