There are multiple online videos of people slapping other people very hard after being pushed into a corner and it does nothing but start a melee.

Yes you should use minimal force (closed fist laws) if you are skilled enough, but use techniques that deescalate and de-fuse, like joint locks or throws that instantly take away the other persons will to fight. Slapping will have the total opposite effect half of the time and will escalate a situation quickly. I spent many years as a bouncer.
