We're living in a court society (as in, Court of the King). If you're close enough to power, then the law doesn't apply to you.

The law has always been a tool for controlling the masses and making these masses behave in a way that's relatively stable and predictable. It is obvious that the Law was never applied (nor designed to be applied) the same way depending on what your social background is.
