Dale Carnegie had a book “how to win friends and influence people”, it had a couple solid foundational concepts about winning people over. One was if you have to say something negative/criticize someone, say something positive first.
In that same vein, before getting them to abandon their view entirely, agree with it and just shift it slightly.
Racism is bad, and a problem. But actually we arent doing enough. Keeping Asians out of college by shorting their sat scores is racist. Encouraging illegal immigration so they pay into SS without receiving benefits is modern slavery.
Increasing our minimum wage and environmental standards sounds nice, but we just buy things from countries without those protections. That makes us look like elitists forcing the worst work onto poorer countries
The advice id give to someone I cared about entering politics, find some donors who you can morally justify shaping legislation/regulations for, and have someone who knows how to keep you insulated from that.
You need lots of money to campaign, and the only reason politicians can reliably secure funding is by providing a service, and that service is inside access.
The MAGA way of doing this would be reaching out to small business owners, American manufacturers, middle class families, and UNIONS (union management skews democrat because democrats play ball, but the rank and file are MAGA).
Do like Trump did and put down in writing positions they can hold you to, pre election. Keep some vague like he did but some concrete ones like "will never vote to raise taxes" and "will vote against all bill of rights restrictions" are red meat.
