The point of them spamming is because it makes their names more familiar and people will begin to upvote them without reading the content or will believe the content is popular. It does work. I have seen many good posts get completely eclipsed by the spam.

For example, the Amy Coney Barrett situation was a recent situation where users were convinced that Barrett was a Constitutionalist despite her just having struck down the Constitution. All her pictures were upvoted and real stories and criticism of her were buried. Even the text posts saying it was great to see support for her were upvoted more than real news.
