I'm going to say something shocking: the debt doesn't matter. It really doesn't. If we defaulted on all of our foreign loans today, we would still have unmatched infrastructure and GDP compared to the rest of the world. We might even be better off, because without a government backing it private industry will not be tied down by the corruption we've seen in past generations. Libertarian populism for life.
I knew Biden would be president after what happened on 1/6. That day turned out as poorly as it possibly could have.
I say this as an ardent Trump supporter - our best hope is for Trump to disappear from the limelight. N new generation of Josh Hawleys and Matt Gaetzs will carry on the doctrine. Perhaps a Kristi Noem or a Candace Owens will be our next presidential candidate.
The cheating will likely continue in some form, but the one hope I have to cling to is that 2020 will have been the most egregious precisely because of how much Trump is hated. Combine Trump's policy with a common sense, even-tempered personality and people will be more receptive to it. Eventually the Democrats' web of evil will consume them and the never Trumpers will see the light (and maybe even some of the more reasonable Dems). I really do believe that.
It also helps to pray - I believe America is a special place, and I also believe in manifest destiny and that God will not let it be destroyed.
I agree that it’s up to us, but there are times when it’s hard for me to believe that this many of our own are this defeatist. I don’t think all of them are Romney-level corrupted and I would like to believe that (like all of us) they will finally start to scream when you physically take their candy from them
I was mostly thinking about the state-based lawsuits. But I think this was our last constitutional avenue regarding Jan 6th (i.e. Pence has to reject the false electors because of the litigation against him). Now he has no reason to reject them, because the compelling risk isn't a factor anymore.
I don’t know, but I do think the Powell-Wood thing is a red herring and also I think the Trump team may have private plans that they don’t want to broadcast for fear of giving the opponents more time to retaliate/stall/etc
Very good point. But what is different about my idea is the accountability aspect. MAGA will be effectively a third party in the short-term, and a secondary party long-term. You must be a MAGA member in order to be considered part of the moment. If you do not register as a MAGA Republican, you are as good as a Democrat. Eventually you will be forced out, but if you must be elected for now we will keep you for the occasional vote.
I should qualify this by saying that what DOES matter is how much the government taxes its people. Period. All we need a government for is military and defense. Everything else would be better run by the private sector. Ideally small businesses. That's where the populism part comes in.
