reddit's not much better. the r/news article is basically full of people hoping he dies and the r/politics thread was culled.

so, WaPo's motto "Democracy Dies in Darkness" is supposed to be ironic then.

"Social distancing? I already do that, just stay inside and don't let hillbilly neighbors past the mailbox."

yeah, I read recently that a big reason many countries were much more behind the curve as far as creating tests was because China refused to send samples outside the country.

Labs and companies need samples of the virus itself in order to make their tests, but delays in getting access to samples further slowed down the test-development process. The coronavirus originated in China, and as several microbiologists told me, the Chinese government does not allow specimens to be shipped outside its borders.

Many researchers have had difficulty getting their hands on samples even as the virus has spread. “I was working the phones to try to get access to the virus,” Greninger said. SOURCE

reddit never seems to bring this up. China, in addition to accidentally creating this thing and letting it get out of hand, created yet another barrier for scientists internationally to overcome.

there are a handful of websites out there whose sole purpose is to shine a light on consumer goods that are made in the USA. if we could rally around one, that would be amazing.

there was a subreddit specifically made for this, too. it's not super active, but some good resources in there: https://www.reddit.com/r/madeinusa/

yeah, they'll issue an apology. just like I'm sure /r/politics, /r/worldnews, and all the other subs that jumped on the bandwagon will upvote the retraction to the front page.

SPEZ: just looked it up, and one of the news sites is already saying, "Google is making a website, but not one like Trump described." /facepalm

you're getting faith and religion too bound up. even if you're not a believer, you can still have faith that things will work out to a net positive in your life and the lives of your fellow citizens. no God required.

for someone who tells people she's Muslim for like no reason most times (it's even in her Twitter profile) and hides behind Muslim victimhood constantly, it's strange she'd find cause to attack this. Carson was pretty diplomatic, no matter your faith we should come together as a country.

her message was basically, nah, fuck that.

I was just thinking the other day: for as crazy as reddit went about facebook allowing political ads for fear of outside influence, no one ever pushed for shutting down r/politics for the same reasons.

r/politics in shambles.

he's the protest candidate this time around. Bernie ran a pretty civil campaign last time around with only a few hiccups here and there. that's why I liked him, but he aligned himself Trump's most vocal opponents hoping that would carry him to victory this time. that mayor from Puerto Rico, "the squad," anyone who was loud enough.

turns out, positioning yourself to be the protest vote is kinda pointless if your supporters are in the demographic most likely to forget how to vote during the primary. also I think his weird alliances and constant Trump bashing pushed away a lot of his moderate supporters.

this has been one of the weirdest things the media has gone after him for. somehow it's newsworthy that life-long habits and reflexes aren't easily broken overnight.

and that Trump and Pence contract the virus

seen a ton of people on r/politics hoping the president dies from the virus. the upside is that you can report them for "threatening violence or physical harm." it's pretty clear cut.

I was certain that with Bernie pretty much out that they were going to have to calm down for a while, but now covid-19 has given them new life. it's like they leapfrog from one outrage to the next. I don't know how they type such hateful comments when they've been literally shaking for almost four years now.

if Trump made covid-19 illegal, California would probably become a coronavirus sanctuary state in response.

for all these S4P folks who claim to be the academic sort, you would think after surviving the mayhem that is university administration that the last think they'd want is to just straight up dump more money into it.

how much money have these guys fed into broken vending machines expecting them to work eventually?

stop comparing it to the flu.

agreed. I've seen too many people who are in that 60+ age range who are shrugging off the idea of taking covid-19 seriously because it's "just a flu," and others conflating preparedness with an anti-Trump stance.

the Wuhan virus spreads easier and has a higher mortality rate. preparedness is oh so cheap compared to the potential risks.

I wish I could love anything as much as liberals seem to hate everything and everyone that doesn't fall in line.

oh yeah, the DNC is absolutely going to throw all their weight behind this election. if Trump wins despite the House's impeachment, it'll absolutely ruin their reputation.

I'd be shocked if he chose her. Tulsi pretty much kamikazi'd Kamala's rep with the voters Biden would be trying to lock in. she also has the whole Juicy Smoolieay thing hanging over her head and Trump/Pence would not hesitate to bring that up in the debates.

lots of people in there being all sad that they're not getting free healthcare. like, people legitimately thought Bernie was going to snap his fingers and make it a thing.
