When " government help" is based on a financial aid worksheet, which says that 1 person living alone has a shelter allowance of $249/ month ( but the rent on your efficiency apartment is $600) people are automatically disqualified from programs and assistance by the outdated worksheets being used by the dhhr . Income level for 1 person is $1200/ month BEFORE taxes/ gross income $11.50 / hour x40 hrs x 4.3 weeks means you gross $1978/ month. After taxes, SS, insurance, etc you're left with +/- $1000. But they use PRE DEDUCTION income. Not what you being home. Shelter- $249; utilities/ Electric-$59/month($308). But the reality is shelter-$600/ month, utilities are$135/ month($735) Right off they say you gave $400 "extra" that you don't have EXTRA
If you own a vehicle, and are required to have insurance, that amount is not allowed on your deductible income UNLESS YOU ARE LIVING IN YOUR CAR, in which case you still don't qualify because now your " shelter payment" is less than $249/ month and you have money left over.
But if you are unemployed, you get everything handed to you: food, shelter, medical care etc. The system is designed to reward people to stay on the government dole. Working people are handicapped by the use pre-tax income . I believe if you live solely on government/ taxpayer funded income that community service hours should be required . That minimum wage X 40 hours per week , payable in bimonthly deposits for those who are able bodies . Children, elderly, truly disabled are exempt.
Remember the chaos that broke out when several states had a " glitch" in their EBT CARD programs?? The shrieking and wailing when people went to go shopping and their welfare cards were empty?? So they just looted the stores instead
