It is obvious to me that Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) should be available over the counter without a prescription. I've been studying the virus since mid-January and I've learned a lot that the mainstream media and governments ignore. Here is a brief explanation:
HCQ with Zinc stops viral replication. There is a great paper from 2010 to read: "Zn2+ Inhibits Coronavirus and Arterivirus RNA Polymerase Activity In Vitro and Zinc Ionophores Block the Replication of These Viruses in Cell Culture" It should be required reading by everyone on the Covid-19 task force.
That Chloroquine / HCQ works against SARS has been known to the NIH since 2005. However, Covid-19 around the 5-7th day after infection triggers what is known as a cytokine storm. The immune system goes haywire, does more damage than the virus itself, is much harder to stop, triggers an attack on many organs, and causes serious health problems such as loss of taste and smell, serious loss of lung capacity, brain fog, fatigue, etc. Therefore it is critical to get treatment before the cytokine storm happens.
However, people only notice symptoms after 3 days, so that's not much time. That fact is the key.
Additionally, HCQ is known to be very safe. It is one of the most widely taken drugs in the history of man. It is known to be safe for long-term use, and by pregnant women and children. We don't need to wait for a vaccine. It should be available in every gas station!
You should add Dr. Yan, the Hong Kong virologist whistleblower, to your Covid-19 task force. She knows so much and is 1000x better than Fauci.
Also you should investigate Chlorine Dioxide (MMS). It kills many pathogens in the right dose. I chatted with someone who said it saved his life in the Army when he caught malaria. The FDA's web page about MMS is full of falsehoods, since it doesn't talk about low-doses, ignores how it is used in water treatment, lies and only says industrial bleach, ignores how it is a safe and mild oxidant, etc.
I know many ways the US government could save billions of dollars, but for now I'd like to just see you start with making HCQ OTC. It would change the course of this pandemic, and save so much lives and prevent serious organ damage! I would also investigate making Ivermectin available OTC.
