But yeah, if the state votes for a Republican candidate the state legislature selects the Electors nominated by the state Republican party.
Which is why lawsuits in GA and PA (and probably MI and WI) are seeking to invalidate voting procedures established by the Sec of State and not the legislature. If the actual election was illegal, then the legislature has to sort out the mess.
It seems to me that the legal strategy is to provide the state legislatures fair ground to choose their electors. And the states in question have Republican legislatures.

It's a major honor that only goes to the big donors, state party officials, and private citizens that are politically important to the party.
The legislature of each state chooses which party's set of electors to send to the electoral college.
