Every vanishpoint syringe I've seen used has to be retracted by pressing a mechanism. Generally makes an audible click.

Here's the deal with bright red blood, it's from an artery. Darker blood is returning to the heart via veins after delivering oxygen throughout the body. If he has bright red blood coming from his upper thigh, obvious concern would be that his femoral artery is leaking... Arteries are what spurt out blood in rhythm with the heart's contractions, not ooze out. So either it isn't his blood, or it's just fake. If it was his blood, they wouldn't have him walking like that, he would be on a stretcher with a tourniquet or someone putting pressure on the wound.
