So PCR replicates DNA (in this case, it's RT-PCR or reverse transcriptase PCR since the COVID virus is RNA, but same principle). So, let's say there's one strand of the RNA in the sample. The process involves amplifying this one piece, so after one cycle, there are two, then after 2, there are four and so on. After 40 cycles, there can be a hell of a lot of pieces, making one look like a shit-ton.

Problem is, the enzyme used to amplify is not 100% correct, so errors can be made. So, after that many cycles, there could be a bunch of errors, mucking up the results.

This donkey is for sure no fucking scientist. He got his MD 54 years ago and hasn't done any sort of clinical research in decades. Most MDs don't know squat about science (source: me, did a PhD in molecular genetics and then an MD).

Shit, when I was doing my research back in the day, I did PCR nearly every day for five years and I used about 27 cycles of PCR because anything beyond that fucked up the results. Now they're using 40 cycles to find this virus and these physicians think that's kosher? Eat a bag of dicks you fucks.

Sorry. This shit pisses me off.

Yep, bail money and legal fees for their son for manslaughter and hit-and-run when he ran a stop sign and hit a car, killing an 83 year old man and injuring his wife.

One of my coworkers has TDS and texted me this morning saying she was nearly in tears about the media calling it for Biden. My reply: "Well, real tears will be coming soon."

Neurologist here - I'd say Lewy Body Dementia, which has fluctuating cognition, parkinsonian features (wasn't there a Parkinson's type tremor seen somewhere?), episodes of staring off into space (lights on, nobody home), language dysfunction.

Challenge to this bitch: Answer a question or talk without mentioning Republicans or Trump. As I much as I despise these clowns, if just for one day, they came up with a plan other than "orange man bad," I'd have one similarity to Biden and Nadler and shit my pants.

Huh - Someone from Long Beach drove all the way to Yorba Linda and ran over people in a parking lot? Hmm..

Haha. I've moved on to Never Gonna Give You Up. Hangup time averages about 1-2 seconds.

Edit: She's over it. Phone number's been disconnected.

Called up. Lady on the phone accused me of not being from Louisville. I said, no I was brought in. She replied, "Oh you were brought in by George Soros, right?" My reply was, "I don't know who that is. Can you please help me?" She went off the rails after that, so she's getting hammered.

Keep calling these fuckers.

I may just be a neurologist, but that's Alzheimer's

yep. He's going to be permanently limp-wristed.

Not just children. I'm a neurologist and I see 6-7 patients a week whose dementia has drastically worsened in the past 4 months. I had a referral come in for one who started having delusional behavior and hallucinations since March. Another was a vibrant 90 year old who had no issues until she broke a hip, went to a care facility for a week, then was in lockdown since March, unable to do anything she used to do. Another long term patient of mine will never walk again because he couldn't get physical therapy. These are the unspoken victims of this whole overblown nightmare.

When I was a kid in my country, I used to think about sunshine, oranges and raisins

When I was a kid in Orange County in the 1980s, that's precisely what it was.

Hell, Pasadena cancelled the Rose Parade 5 1/2 months away. The more deaths go down, the more the hammer falls with them.

Also, do the people testing positive have any symptoms?

21
kutastha1 21 points ago +21 / -0

I'm a physician with a PhD in molecular biology and I keep telling people, the best way to make the whole thing go away is to stop testing. How would it change management of people who are actually sick?

Spoiler: it wouldn't.

Funny you say that. A few weeks ago I saw a patent whose husband who said he's worked on pandemic response strategies for years. He was all fired up about how everything with this is backwards from SARS (e.g. back then social distancing was an afterthought and only handwashing and PPE in close quarters were advised). He said, "Mark my words, the virus will instantly become a non-issue on November 4. It happens every time."

And Kunt Brown's response? Lockdown until July 6.

Yep. Here's the data for Oregon so far, yet she still keeps pushing further restrictions:

ICU and non-ICU beds available: 2561

ICU and non-ICU beds total: 8216

Hospital capacity: 31%

Number of ventilators available: 794

Number of ventilators used by patients with confirmed COVID-19: 35

Percent ventilators used for COVID-19: 4.4%

Deaths of patients ≥ 70: 46 (79% of cases)

Deaths of patients ≥ 80: 30 (52%)

Deaths of patients < 70: 12 (21%)

Number of deaths who were in a nursing home: 30 (55%)

CFR ≥ 70: 2.8%

CFR < 70: 0.7%

CFR < 60: 0.1%

Keeping in mind this is only based on those sick enough to be tested

As of 8 am this morning, Oregon is at 31% capacity and yet we're in a seemingly endless lockdown. 79% of our 58 deaths are in those over 70, 52% older than 80. Yet those outside of the age ranges also have to limit any interaction with society.

That woman is insane. It doesn't help when other day there was one death and the Oregonian headline was "Coronavirus deaths rise to 55." Now we're at 58 out of a population of over 4 million for a death rate per population of 0.001% and nearly half were in nursing homes. Yet she's willing to drag down our entire economy.
