The rented hardware isn't the problem. The propriatary apis are. It means that moving to a competitor requires a large investment of time and money to update the deploy pipelines.
Rent regular servers and use standard deploy methods, be it Docker et al. or good-ol' shell scripts.
I disagree. The CCP needs to control Taiwan mainly for political reasons. If Taiwan was able to "break away" from the Mainland, it would send the message that separatism is possible. And that may cause mainland provincial leaders to try their luck and form their own country. Especially in provinces where Beijings power is weak to begin with, like southern and western China.
I doubt there will be many bombs involved. China's PLA is pretty useless and Taiwanese defenses are quite solid.
More likely that the CCP will use Propaganda and their "good relationship" with the Biden family to take control of Taiwan.
Really sad.
The Chinese will take over Taiwan in the next four years and Biden will allow it. Probably it will not even be necessary to use the (pretty useless) PLA. China may just "convince" Biden to hand over control, like the HK deal.
Well, mostly the police opened the doors and let them in. So let's call it "possible trespassing".
